Supported Living is a Medicaid-funded residential service that allows individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in their own apartment while receiving individualized support based on their needs and goals.

At Shine Support Services, we offer supported living apartments designed to promote independence, choice, and dignity — while still ensuring safety and access to support when needed.

Shine offers supported living apartments that provide:

  • Safe, accessible environments

  • Proximity to staff support

  • Built-in community connections

  • A balance of privacy and oversight

Our apartments are designed to feel like home, not a program.

Availability may be limited, so early inquiry is encouraged.


  • Supported Living provides assistance to individuals who can live independently or semi-independently but still need help with certain areas of daily life.

    Unlike group homes or AFL:

    • Individuals lease or occupy their own apartment

    • Support is not 24/7 unless authorized

    • Services are individualized and flexible

    • Individuals have greater independence and control

    Shine’s supported living model balances freedom and support.

  • Supported Living is ideal for individuals who:

    • Want to live more independently

    • Can safely be alone for periods of time

    • Do not require constant supervision

    • Need help with specific supports such as:

      • Medication reminders

      • Cooking and meal planning

      • Budgeting and money management

      • Transportation coordination

      • Community integration

    • Are transitioning from:

      • A group home

      • AFL

      • Family home

    • Want to build life skills while maintaining autonomy

    Supported Living typically serves adults, depending on funding and authorization.

  • Supports are customized and may include:

    • Assistance within the individual’s apartment

    • Support with daily living skills

    • Medication reminders or administration (if authorized)

    • Meal planning and nutrition support

    • Budgeting and household management

    • Transportation coordination

    • Skill-building toward independence

    • Community involvement and social engagement

    • Documentation and care coordination

    Support levels are based on approved service hours and individual need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility for Supported Living

To qualify for Supported Living services, an individual generally must:

  • Have a qualifying I/DD diagnosis

  • Be Medicaid eligible

  • Be approved for:

    • Innovations Waiver services or

  • Demonstrate the ability to live safely with 1:1 support

  • Have an approved service authorization through their LME/MCO
